Image from final BFA Show at UIowa in 2014 titled "Gingham Check". I cut up a lot of my undergraduate paintings to resew into a quilt. At the time, I felt no matter how good I got technically at something my identity and socio-economic class would always be a barrier. Quilts are generally considered a folk art, while I was persuing a fine art of painting. The disassembly became a form of protest and meditation. The reassembly made my hands bleed and hurt so bad because oil paint covered canvas is not suppose to be sewn. I left the physical at school when I graduated - I don't know if they kept it or trashed it. <3 Empress Trash
